M is for Memories: 2 Months Old!

I literally can't believe it!
Wasn't I in the hospital like yesterday??
(well let's not re-hash that actually!)
Our baby boy was 2 months on the 22nd.

We had our check up at the Pediatrician yesterday...
Didn't get the memo that little man would receive 4 shots.
Don't think I've heard a cry like that before.
And he turned 4 shades of red to match. Poor thing.

I was surprised that I didn't cry.
Now being in the mommy club, for some reason I feel like I have to be strong for him.
Now that's not to say there aren't moments I break down.
But overall, we both did good.

My growing boy is 23" long and a whooping 12 lbs, 3oz.
Doc says we are right on track!
Tripp is holding his head up longer every day
and likes to stand up (with help of course!) on our legs.

He's really starting to smile more, even with the occasional giggle in his sleep.
Wonder what he's dreaming about?!
When he cries, he prefers we bounce and sing the theme song from "Bonanza"!
Definitely Mr. C's son.

Most of the newborn clothes make him look like a
little sausage so we've upgraded to the 0-3 month clothes.
He likes to copy me when I stick out my tongue. That's our new game!
He's focusing more on objects and definitely recognizing our faces and voices...
And then he smiles...and that's the coolest thing. EVER.

Growing in love more every day!
XOXO-LC

M is for Memories: 1 Month Old!

Hello Baby,

Think we need to run away to Never Never Land
because you are growing up way too fast...

Happy 1 Month Old!!!

Today you had a doctor's appointment and you are
22 1/2" long and 9lbs 14oz!
You have dark blue eyes, blond hair,
still wearing newborn clothes
(but some are getting tight!)
are holding your head up,
gripping onto things with your strong little hands,
and really starting to focus with your little eyes.

It's so cool to see you grow and discover something new everyday.
Love you sweet boy!

M is for Memories: 2 Weeks Old

Hello Baby,

This morning at 6:43am, you were officially 2 weeks old!
It feels like yesterday that we saw you for the very first time.
The past couple weeks have already gone by so fast.
And even through some of the sleepless nights, what a wonderful 2 weeks it's been.

Today you weighed 7lbs, 15oz-
exactly 1 pound heavier than the day you were born.

Happy 2 weeks to you my little love,
XOXO- Mom

M is for Memories: The First Week

Hello Baby,

Mr. C said this morning around 7am:
"Just think, it was around this time exactly last week we held our son for the first time."

And I can't believe how quickly it went by.
Here's a little recap of your first week:

Day 1: Tuesday aka "D-Day"
After almost 12 hours of labor,
we heard your first sweet cry at 6:43am Tuesday morning.
It was a long day and kind of a blur,
but without a doubt the most exciting day of my life.

You had lots of visitors throughout the day:
Nain and Tiad, Ninjie and Kpa, Grandma and Grandpa, and our friends
Aunt Natalie and Uncle Jordan brought us lunch, Uncle Trevor brought you flowers,
Aunt Lisa brought me wine, your first Bible (tear!) and a cute notebook, and Aunt Lauren brought you some pretty flowers and 2 adorable outfits from her store

{Geez, are you loved or what?! That was just the first day!}

You took right away to feeding. I struggled a bit and there may have been some tears,
but I didn't care because I got to snuggle and study all your little new features all day and night.
Mr. C was right by my side the whole time and without me asking, changed your first diapers.
He is such a wonderful, proud daddy.

Day 2: Wednesday
Although I was recovering from the lovely aftermath of labor and serious lack of sleep,
I still felt really energetic.
I even took a couple laps around the post-partum wing,
smiling as I paraded you around in your bassinet.

We had a lot of people stop by too:
your Great Aunt Kathy and Uncle Rick, Great Aunt Tina,
second cousin Shyanne and her sweet daughter Kinsley, and your Uncle Ben and Aunt Ashley;
and a couple of my favorite friends, your Aunts Natalie and Maddie.

Day 3: Thursday
Thursday we were discharged from the hospital. I was ready.
It was overwhelming having so many nurses in and out
telling us what to do/not to do upon bringing you home.
I was exhausted and hardly able to retain info, but yet they kept on shoving papers in our face...

Wait a sec..."what did I just sign?, what was that about the umbilical cord again?,
you want to give me what shot before I leave?"....

Fortunately our friend Will came just in time to see you
and was the perfect relief to the craziness!

I couldn't wait to be back in our own space.
We loaded up the car and were on our way.
The drive home was short and sweet. (almost 4 minutes if we hit every green light!)
Mr. C drove nice and slow and it was an absolutely beautiful, warm sunny day.

When we got home, you ate almost every hour or so. (Poor Mommy!)
Your Ninjie had prepared the house for us and helped us take care of you when you were fussy.
I'm sure you were just getting used to yet another new environment.
I'd imagine being a newborn is tough too!

Our friends Aaron and Leah came by late that night with delicious cupcakes and a cute little outfit for you.
I probably got just a few hours sleep that night,
but those quiet moments in the early morning hours were some of the best.
When I just got to cuddle with you as we lay in bed.

You really are such a good baby.

Day 4: Friday
You were so chill and easy today.
Mr. C and I had a movie marathon and you just hung out right beside us. Fitting right in.
Aunt Maddie and Uncle Joe came over for a steak dinner.
And I may have had my first sip of wine in more than 8 months!

I love seeing you with all our friends and family.

Day 5: Saturday
You had your first pediatrician appointment this morning.
You weighted about 6lbs, 8.5oz. You were so well behaved!
After the check up, the doctor sent us to the ER
to get blood drawn to check on a slight case of jaundice you had developed.

My heart sank. I've never worried about anything as much I do for you!
Mr. C stayed calm as we made the trip and spent the afternoon waiting to hear the results.
Meanwhile, your Grandma drove up from Katy to stay with us for the week. {Thank goodness!}
We also had a few visitors: your Aunt Natalie with lunch, Nain and Tiad, and Aunt Kate.

Later that afternoon, the local children's hospital came and set up a photo therapy light in your crib.
Unless you were eating or getting changed, you were to be in it 24/7.
It was a long night, but we all took shifts.
You did not even cry when you were in there.

Day 6: Sunday
Day 2 of the light box,
or the "teleporter, microwave, space machine" as we liked to call it.
Marcus and Kate came by with brunch and your KPa stopped by to say hello for a bit.
Your nursery became the head quarters for the entire house.
We never left your side.

Because we were a little stir crazy, we gave you your first bath.

I remember as I laid down for a quick nap around 11:30pm,
with the bright light of the box shinning into our bedroom,
over hearing your Daddy reading to you in the nursery.
All I could think about was how lucky I was.

Day 7: Monday
Mr. C had to go to back to work that morning. Boy did I miss him.
He came in before he started getting ready and gave you a little kiss on the forehead.
I had stayed up all night with you,
only resting my eyes as I fed you.

Later on in the morning, Grandma and I took you back to the pediatrician to check your blood.
While we were anxiously waiting for the results,
Your Ninjie came by with lunch and we all had a picnic in your room.
And finally, after a million years, we heard the great news that the therapy was done!

I'm pretty sure I exhaled for the first time in 2 days!!!

We celebrated and immediately came into the living room to set up my Mommy command center.
Your Auntie Natalie and Uncle Jordan came by with dinner later on that evening.
You loved being held by Natalie!
That night you ate and slept so well. I slept when you did and felt refreshed the next morning!

Day 8: Tuesday
***Happy 1 Week Old to you sweet baby Tripp!***

Counting my many blessings,
XOXO- Mom

M is for Memories: Words from the Past

Hello Baby,

First off, happy happy 24 Weeks and 3 days old to you!
This past weekend Mr. C and I went to visit my Mommy, Daddy, and your Uncle Kellan in Katy.
And you got to meet one of my very special friends, Auntie Alex, too.
She wants you to come visit her in Lafayette next year. We will go do boy things like fish and look for crabs.

isn't she pretty?!

Mom and I shopped a little for your nursery and looked through all my old books in the attic.
How cool is it that my Mom kept so many? So many of my favorites that I can now share with you.
(We filled 4 whole shopping bags!)
Some of the bindings and covers are torn and worn. And some are inscribed by loved ones.
There is something about the way the pages smell- like my childhood.

Here's some of my favorites I can't wait to read to you:
This was your Great Grandmother's, Judith Weisend. My Mom's Mom. She was a wonderful teacher.
She passed away from cancer. And I miss her everyday.

This reads: "To Judy, Like the grandmother in this book, you make geography fun for all of us! I'm sure you will teach your grandson geography like teaching your students and fellow teachers-with excitement and joy for learning. Fondly, Pat"

This was given to my by your Great Grammy B.

She wrote: "To Lauren, With Love from Grammy B-Remember when we read this together-so many times when you lived in Boston? I Love You :)"

A very cute book. With an original illustration from the artist, Jose Aruego.

This reads: "Sometimes good friends can't be together. But Lauren, you make sure that you, Mommy, and Daddy keep close to me! Happy Birthday! xxoo Jeff '89"

So very true about good friends and distance...

Another from Grammy B: "1991. Dear Lauren, I send this book to you to introduce you to an author that I hope you will grow to love-as does your Daddy-I'm sure Mommy, Daddy will read this to you many times and when I next come to Houston, I will read to you from these pages also. And someday you will be able to read all of Thoreau all by yourself. Hugs, Grammy B"

They just don't make books like this anymore. Lucky you.
XOXO- Mom

M is for Memories: Summer 2012

Hello Baby,

Not going to lie, this past Summer has been kind of (ok, a lot of) a blur.

Besides finding out that we were pregnant with you towards the end of May,
right after the Saturday Colonial Golf Tournament to be exact...
(I was only about 4-5 weeks along)
we were busy busy and I was tired and nauseous.
(well worth it once I get to meet you!)

1st Trimester went by so slow, yet so fast.
If I wasn't working, I was home sleeping.
(in the fetal position because nothing else was comfortable)
I was never really physically sick; just nauseous, like all day.
And I had absolutely no appetite. Which is so unlike me.

Here's some 1st Trimester milestones:
(weeks 1-12)
  • Celebrated my 26th Birthday @ Winslows.
  • Told our families about you over Father's Day. (more on this soon!)
  • Cravings: Anything cheese but specifically Kraft Mac and Cheese & Flammin' Hot Cheetos. Yep...
  • Your nickname "Baby Shu" was born. (The first time we saw you over the sonogram at 9 weeks, you were about the size of a cashew)
  • You went to your first Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at the Botanic Gardens. They played Elvis songs.
  • I'm sure there's lots more, but the majority of the time I just slept.
Needless to say, I welcomed the 2nd Trimester with open arms...
(and a hungry belly!)

XOXO-Mom
